- WRC vs. Chicago Blaze 3.21.09
-
- It was a great spring day for our first match of the
season this weekend as the WRC Played the Chicago Blaze.
The final Score was 8-3 in favor of the Blaze. One penalty
Kick was converted by Dennis Law. For the first match of
the year we played pretty good defense and had sure tackling
but lacked cohesiveness in open play to convert on any of
our breaks on offense. New second row Rocco D managed to
get into the try zone but failed to ground the ball. Sideline
reports had him scoring but as we know the ref makes the
final call. Sorry I do not have much else for details as
I played and rarely can recall much of anything after a
match except a hospital pass from someone to someone.
There was great all around effort and enthusiasm as the
weekend saw tons of new faces making their debut with the
WRC 1st side and also the 2nd side Sharks.(kennedy could
not even get in!) There looks to be a lot of new talent,
all we have to do now is play a ton of rugby together this
spring so we can make a strong push for greatness next fall's
league season.
Thanks to all the fans for showing up and cheering us on
and Tom Beatty who took care of the grilling and food details.
Thanks to Dr.
Dave for being the trainer for the day.

Sunday Demolition
A great big thanks to all those who made it out Sunday to
reclaim building materials from a soon to be demolished church
for the new clubhouse. We were able to get a big commercial
stove/oven, lighting, hotwater heater, electrical panels,
doors, oak trim, HVAC, Toilets, Retractable partition walls
etc.
Thanks to Rick Stoughton for arranging and leading the group,
Steve Kirsh for the truck to haul our take, and Skip Heffernan
for the space at Culligan to store until the new clubhouse
is built.
Thanks to the following for all their hard work, time and
aching bodies to help the club and its future: WRC New Guys
Dan and Chris, Rob, Rocco, Jesse, Jeremy Roberts, Jake, Dennis,
Tim, and Guido. From the womens club Jess Burda, Nadia and
Rachael.
Our greatly appreciated old boys who are not only the brains
behind the clubhouse going forward, but also willing to provide
the muscle and logistics for this: Rick Stoughton, Steve Kirsh,
Bob Jafferis, Jon Moyer, Steve Cohan and Fishy. (And the truck
driver from Kirsch's company.) |
